Fire Code (BBQs on Balconies).

Utah Code Title 15A, Chapter 5.

Utah has adopted the International Fire Code, 2015 edition.  See Utah Code § 15A-5-103.

The International Fire Code prohibits operation of charcoal burners and other open-flame cooking devices on a balcony or within 10 feet of a building, except:

  1.  1- & 2-family dwellings,
  2.  if protected by an automatic sprinkler system, or
  3.  LP-gas cooking devices with an LP-gas container with water capacity of 2.5 pounds or less (nominal 1 pound LP-gas capacity).
